Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we kick off the 20th Annual Campaign for the Kernersville Foundation, which runs from September 1 to October 15, we want to take a moment to look at the path we’ve traveled since 1999.
When we decided to establish a community foundation for the town of Kernersville, we weren’t sure where this journey would take us. What we were sure of, however, was that our town is full of generous people who wanted to invest in our community. And for two decades, we’ve found that local generosity and kindness have exceeded our expectations and allowed us to meet basic human needs and make Kernersville a town where everyone can thrive and be inspired.
In the past 20 years, we’ve seen amazing work done through our community’s nonprofits:
- Women and children have gotten the courage and support they needed to leave abusive homes.
- Our neighbors with disabilities are building rich, full lives.
- Citizens young and old have expanded their creativity on the stage.
- Families have escaped the hustle and bustle of modern life in the serenity of a neighborhood park and see the downtown renewal.
All of these things—and more—have happened because of the compassion, vision and generosity of people like you.
As we look to what the next 20 years can bring, we want to dream even bigger. We’d like to cast our nets wide to include even more of our neighbors in the Foundation’s mission of supporting nonprofits that serve the people of our town. The community foundation movement was built on the idea that philanthropic giving isn’t just for the wealthy; it’s something everyone can participate in. People giving what they can, putting their money together to amplify its reach, has enabled the Foundation to award 264 grants totaling $733,435 in the past two decades. Donor advised funds managed by the Foundation have grown to over a $1 million many of these dollars will effect real change in the community.
You are a part of that and we invite you to continue by spreading the news. The Kernersville Foundation truly belongs to the people of Kernersville. The organization is completely made up of volunteers, so you know that 100% of donations and gifts go directly to the local nonprofit agency or agencies of your choice, or as directed by local community leaders that make up the Community Advisory Board.
