Kernersville Christmas Stocking Fund

Through this year’s donation from the Kernersville Foundation and additional fundraising efforts, Kernersville Christmas Stocking provided a $150 Lowes Foods Gift Certificate to 147 families. Each family also received a $70 Target gift card for every child aged 14 years or younger, enabling parents to purchase Christmas gifts for their children. Furthermore, each family was presented with a gift bag containing a box of cake mix, a can of icing, a birthday candle, candy canes, and The Nativity Story book, which included a Spanish translation.

Christmas is widely recognized as a season of hope, generosity, and joy. It provides an occasion to remember the birth of Christ and acknowledge the blessings and gifts of His love. Many individuals demonstrate their generosity by exchanging gifts with loved ones. Some gifts may serve symbolic purposes, while others address essential needs such as warm clothing and meals. Although many easily accommodate these expenses alongside regular monthly obligations, a considerable number of families lack the financial resources to do so.
Supporting these families remains a central mission of the Kernersville Christmas Stocking (KCS).

Notably, four out of six Kernersville elementary schools and one Kernersville middle school hold Title I status, indicating a high percentage of students from low-income households. In response, KCS focuses our efforts on providing meaningful support to these families to help give hope and joy to their holiday season.

By distributing gift cards directly to parents, KCS empowers them to choose the gifts that best meet their children’s needs. This initiative reflects the organization’s foundational values. The concept of this local mission originated with former Kernersville Moravian Church Pastor Truman Dunn, who collaborated with the late John Owensby 37 years ago to establish the Kernersville Christmas Stocking.
