Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville
The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville is deeply grateful for the support of the Kernersville Foundation in launching The Rest Stop, Kernersville’s first group respite ministry for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. The Rest Stop is slated to open March 17, 2026.
The Foundation’s grant was used to cover critical start-up costs that made the program possible. Specifically, funds supported:
- Roadmap Online Training Program to properly train volunteers in a social model of dementia care
- Laptop and printer to manage participant registration, communication, and program materials
- Marketing supplies to promote the launch and reach local caregivers in need of respite
- Background checks to ensure a safe environment for all participants
- Mailchimp subscription to establish consistent outreach and caregiver communication
- Activity Supplies to support hands-on creative programming, including painting, crafts, and other therapeutic arts experiences that encourage self-expression and cognitive engagement
The Kernersville Foundation’s investment provided the essential infrastructure needed to launch this ministry. Because of your support, families in our community will have access to a new, sustainable respite option that fosters dignity, connection, and joy for all involved.
Through this initiative, we are serving local caregivers and their loved ones living with dementia—individuals we call “Friends”—by providing meaningful social engagement and companionship for participants while offering caregivers several hours of restorative relief. The program is designed to serve multiple participants in each session, creating a growing community of support for families navigating Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
